One of the most challenging times of 5th grade group is when the kids engage in unstructured play. Unstructured play that is not directed by adults is the best way to develop social and executive functioning yet can also be the most challenging for kids with ADHD. During this time I do not do any prompting of scripted, socially appropriate behaviors rather my focus is on helping develop cognitive flexibility and perspective-taking.
