Teaching a third grader to think about his friend’s thoughts and feelings before a sleepover

Many kids with ADHD often have play dates that are not reciprocated because they did not think about their friend’s thoughts. Additionally, they often need help scaffolding play dates in order for them to be successful.

Here, I am teaching a 3rd grader what’s expected when his friend comes over for a playdate.

The Social Thinking term “expected behavior” is often used incorrectly in schools. It is not meant to be used to correct behavior, rather it is to be used to teach how to think about others thoughts and feelings.
