Teaching a sixth grader how to go from being “prompt dependent” to independent.

A concept I teach parents is how to transition kids from being “prompt-dependent” to independent. Prompt-dependent means that kids need to constantly be told what to do and will not do routine tasks without constant prompts or reminders.

Yesterday, I was teaching a sixth grader how to use an executive function strategy so he can complete a book report independently, without his parents providing prompting.

Is your son prompt dependent? It’s so it’s time to help him develop age-expected Independence, he can do this.
