About Me
I'm Richard Mataafa, a dedicated male counselor specializing in working with adolescent/teen and adult individuals who are grappling with the profound sense of loss and longing. I am passionate about helping other people pursue wholeness and a better ability to make sense of living in a sometimes difficult world. I believe I have a way of relating with others who know they want change but can't quite identify how that occurs. I've spent time as a school mental health counselor providing therapy to children experiencing immense amounts of trauma, abuse, loneliness, depression, suicidal ideation, and anxiety.
I come from a diverse background having grown up in southern California within a large Polynesian/Hispanic family. In 2016, I relocated to Greenville after spending five years in Florence, AL, where I played football at the University of North Alabama and earned my bachelor's degree.
In 2020, I obtained my MA in Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis. Outside of my professional pursuits, I cherish my roles as husband and father to two boys. On the weekends, I enjoy cooking breakfast burritos, doing Crossfit, getting outside and watching any sort of live comedy.
